What up, What up,
Today was a day to be remembered. Greeted by sunshine this morning, there was a feeling of excitement and an urge to explore among our group. We went to a Venture Capitalist firm named Hummer Winblad Venture Partners and the San Francisco Exploratorium.
We took in a few rays on our stroll down the embarcadero toward the Hummer Winblad Venture Partners. We shortly found ourselves settling into plush leather office chairs in a rock star-like conference room. After learning the key codes to merely access the restrooms during our meeting, our hosts Ann Winblad and Phrahsant Shah. This company was the first venture capitalist company to invest exclusively in software companies. The two venture partners explained their complex investment strategies that involved everything from reading people during their sales pitches to understanding vast consumer and business markets. Ann told us that simply having the right people was the most crucial factor to success in start up companies. Like Steve Larson from callspark, Ann believed that ideas are worth nothing unless those ideas can be leveraged. As a result, so much of an investment decision revolves around the type of people involved in the company seeking investment, their business development plan and their ability to capture the market profitably.
We moved on from Hummer Winblad Venture Partners back down the embarcadero toward the Exploratorium, picking up some lunch on the way. I must say that a turkey avocado crepe is an interesting combination of flavors. Our sunny trek to the Exploritorium was a delightful experience. We were greeted by the admissions worker and an explosion of noise from children's screams of delight over modern science models. Soon our screams of excitement were drowning out those of the children and we were bullying our way to the front the exhibit lines.
After two hours of toilet drinking fountains, bubbles and little girls dashing by screaming "hehehehe let's go get electrocuted!!!", our group was forced to leave wonder world. We strolled down Marina Boulevard at a leisurely pace admiring all of the expensive and fabulously diverse homes overlooking the bay. I was instantly reminded of my favorite childhood book "The Big Orange Splot." Every home was unique with different colors, landscapes and styles of architecture. San Francisco always seems to have something to catch the eye and preoccupy the brain.
Best,
Adam
